What Is the MyFirstEV Tax Credit?

MyFirstEV is a California-only incentive created for first-time EV buyers and lessees purchasing new or used zero-emission vehicles.1 The state-supported program is funded with $135.5 million and partners with participating manufacturers to "buy down" the price of eligible ZEVs.1

On a qualifying new Chevy vehicle, you can receive a combined $3,500 incentive at the point of sale, made up of $1,750 from the state and matched by the manufacturer.1 For a qualifying used EV, the combined incentive totals $1,750, with $875 coming from the state and $875 from the manufacturer.1

To qualify, a new vehicle must carry an MSRP of $50,000 or less, while a used vehicle must be priced at $25,000 or less.1

Which Models Qualify for MyFirstEV?

Choose from new Chevrolet EVs in Sonoma that are eligible for the MyFirstEV program, including:

  • Bolt EV
  • Blazer EV
  • Equinox EV

To qualify, new vehicles must be model year 2026 or newer, and used vehicles must be at least two model years older than the year of purchase and certified through manufacturer programs.1 Only certified zero-emission vehicles are eligible, which means plug-in hybrids do not qualify. 1 Availability of eligible models can vary, so reach out and we'll confirm which qualifying Chevy EVs are ready for you.

Who Qualifies for the MyFirstEV Tax Credit in California?

This incentive is reserved for first-time EV buyers and lessees, and each eligible individual may receive the incentive only once for the life of the program. 1 Vehicles cannot be registered or delivered outside California, and private-party sales are not eligible, so the incentive applies only to purchases made through participating dealers. 1

Remember that price limits apply as well: new vehicles must have an MSRP of $50,000 or less, while used vehicles must be priced at $25,000 or less. 1 The savings are applied instantly at the point of sale and are offered only while funds last, so it pays to act soon. 1

California MyFirstEV FAQs

What types of vehicles are eligible for MyFirstEV?

Only zero-emission vehicles, meaning battery electric and fuel cell models, can take part, and plug-in hybrids are not included. A new vehicle needs to be model year 2026 or newer with an MSRP of $50,000 or less, unless it's built by a California-headquartered ZEV company. A used vehicle must be manufacturer-certified, priced at $25,000 or less, and at least two model years older than the current year.

How soon will I see the incentive after buying?

There's no waiting, because participating manufacturers apply the savings instantly at the point of sale. Keep in mind that availability and eligible models can vary from one location to the next. The program stays active only while funding remains, so shoppers should act soon.

Can I stack this with other incentive offers?

Yes, you can. MyFirstEV can be paired with other CARB and non-CARB incentives, including the Driving Clean Assistance Program and Clean Cars 4 All.

Do I have to keep the vehicle for a set amount of time?

No, there's no minimum ownership period tied to the incentive. That said, eligible vehicles cannot be delivered or registered outside California.

How many times can one person use the incentive?

There is a limit. Each individual may receive only one MyFirstEV incentive during the entire lifetime of the program.

Why focus on light-duty ZEVs instead of medium- and heavy-duty ones?

Light-duty ZEVs are prioritized to keep the market growing after the federal tax credit expired, which helps encourage widespread EV adoption. Medium- and heavy-duty vehicle incentives are handled through separate programs.
